Alligators

Class: Reptilia
Clade: Sauropsida
Order: Crocodylia
Family: Alligatoridae
Subfamily: Alligatorinae
Genus: Alligator and Caiman

Alligators are in the same order as crocodiles and share many characteristics but are in a different taxomic grouping. They do have some differences between crocodiles:

  • In particular alligators tend to have shorter, rounder snouts than crocodiles. Their front teeth also fit into special slots.
  •  Alligators tend also not to be as aggressive as crocodiles.
