This heavy synthetic element has a maximum half life of around 2.8 seconds but perhaps up to 66 seconds, which is very long for being in this end of the periodic table. Named after Russian physicist Georgy Flyorov who founded the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia, where it was created and discovered, this element might provide some clues to the so-called 'island of stability'. This element had some very unusual properties that seemed to be very reactive and yet also stable like noble gas.
