Does fashion reflect art movements?

27 July 2004
by Richard Conan-Davies

Fashion probably does reflect art movements. But sometimes it is the other way around. Artists who paint may sometimes want to simply record what the people of the day are wearing.

It is probably worth considering particular art movement and then look at the fashions that were around at the time.

For example does the art from the 1960s reflect what people wear? It probably depends rather heavily on the types of people. It may be that art movements promote particular styles of patterns on dresses for example.

Remeber what an art movement is. It also has an influence on things like architecture too.
