A technical defintion of cancer

" Any of various malignant neoplasms characterized by the proliferation of anaplastic cells that tend to invade surrounding tissue and metastasize to new body sites. "

Breast cancer is a cancer of breast tissue. Worldwide, it is the most common form of cancer in females, affecting, at some time in their lives, approximately one out of nine to thirteen women who reach age ninety in the Western world. It is the second most fatal cancer in women (after lung cancer), and the number of cases has significantly increased since the 1970s, a phenomenon partly blamed on modern lifestyles in the Western world.

What is the history of breast cancer?

Breast cancer has been around for as long as life has been around.

But from 1994-1995 a genetic link was shown to be a major contributing factor to breast cancer cases.

Interestingly breast cancer was one of the first cancers ever to be recorded in ancient texts.

One of the oldest references is from Ancient Eygpt of around 1600BC:

" The Edwin Smith Papyrus, or writing, describes eight cases of tumors or ulcers of the breast that were treated by cauterization, with a tool called "the fire drill." The writing says about the disease, "There is no treatment."
