Biography of Louise Louise Page(soprano) and pianist Phillipa Candy are one of Australia's most experienced recital pairs, and have delighted audiences around the country with compelling and innovative Lieder recitals. The song recital is one of the most intimate and attractive musical art forms. This pair have received many awards and accolades for their work and enjoy the intimacy and rapport with the audience that comes from presenting song recitals. . Their repertoire is extensive - from early baroque to late twentieth century works. Louise Page graduated with distinction from the Canberra School of Music and the Young Artist Program of the Vienna State Opera where she performed roles in Manon, Iphegenie en Aulide, Der ferne Klang and Die Frau ohne Schatten. She has performed in operas,oratorios and concerts in Austria, Germany and Belgium, as well as throughout Australia. Louise was the 1989 vocal grand finalist in the ABC Young Performer of the Year Competition where she sang the Four Last Songs of Richard Strauss with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. This performance was nominated for a MO Award. A particular love of Lieder led her to winning the inaugural Mietta's / City of Melbourne Song Recital Competition in 1995. Other awards include the Belgian Radio and Television Opera en Bel Canto competition's City of Ghent Prize and the Robert Stolz/Apex Scholarship.She has appeared for many organizations, such as Musica Viva and the Port Fairy Spring Festival, as well as broadcasting for the ABC. She has studied with such artists as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Geoffrey Parsons, Waldemar Kmennt and Sena Jurinac. ![]() |
Now based in Canberra, Louise is a lecturer in voice at the ANU School of Music, and an exceptionally busy performer. In December 2007 she was awarded a Canberra Critics Circle Award for Music and was named the 2007 Canberra Times Artist of the Year. Biography of Phillipa Candy
