How do natural
disasters occur? How are natural
disasters classified?

What is the
history of natural disasters? Natural disasters have been around
for as long as the Earth has existed. Although the
term "disaster"has only been of signficance as long
as humans have been around The origin of the
word disaster comes from the latin "aster"
meaning "of the stars". "dis" means bad/misfortune.
So presumably it all combines to mean bad luck
under the stars. In ancient times stars were asumed
to predict impeding events including bad
events.

The future of
natural disasters. natural disasters
will continue to play a role in
Australia's ecosystem, economy
and social, environoment
development. The ability to
predict and to combat or prevent
fires that threaten people's
homes will be come more
critical.
Further
scientific research into fire
behaviour is likely to provide
one defence against dealing with
this natural phenomena.
The
CSIRO is actively
involved in improving the
ability to predict where natural
disasters are likely occur and
how they spread.
