Caffeine withdrawal symptoms are real

1 October 2004
by Richard Conan-Davies

Having even just one cup of coffee per day can turn you into a coffee addict. At least you certainly definitely will miss your coffee if you don't get it.

This is the latest discovery, something we all probably knew, by researchers from Department of Psychiatry of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine recently published in the Journal Psychopharmacology.

This study, led by Dr. Roland Griffiths , looked at previous published studies about caffeine withdrawal which included 57 experiments and 9 surveys.

The researchers discovered that after 12-24 h people who did not get their caffeine had withdrawal symptoms and after about 20-51 h their symptoms were worse and lasted sometimes 2-9 days.

According to the report, caffeine withdrawal symptoms included headache, fatigue, decreased energy/activeness, decreased alertness, drowsiness, decreased contentedness, depressed mood, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and foggy/not clearheaded.
