Acne bacteria genetic code revealed

2 August 2004
by Richard Conan-Davies

The genetic details of the bacteria that is the main culprit for causing acne has been decipher.

According the the research team from Germany led by Dr. Holger Brüggemann at the Georg-August-University Göttingen.

They disocvered genetic information for " numerous gene products involved in degrading host molecules, including sialidases, neuraminidases, endoglycoceramidases, lipases, and pore-forming factors."

Host molecules just means molecules on people's faces and all those _ases are enzymes that break down bits of the skin.

It is hoped now that these genes have been identified better treatments or drugs can be developed that perhaps target these genes.

Acne can be a very serious condition resulting in permanent scars.
