A weekend around saturn

5 July 2004
by Richard Conan-Davies

The biggest science and nature news story over the weekend has been the arrival of the Cassini- Huygens space probe going into orbit around Saturn on 1 July. As part of this arrival the probe has taken a whole range of images inclduing the largest moon Titan and the famous rings.

It is particularly important for the team to get good images of Titan because that will be the destination of the onboard space probe Huygens that will drop onto the surface of Titan.

Exploring the atmosphere of this moon may give clues to the development of atmospheres on other planets.

Some initial first looks at the surface of Titan suggests that it may have some ground activity or tectonic activity.
