Sand dunes a plenty on Mars

8 August 2004
by Richard Conan-Davies

NASA/JPL has released some spectacular images of almost real colour of sand dunes on Mars.

This image sent back by the rover Spirit at the base of the Endurance crater, the dunes are considered a potential hazard or "sand trap".

The sand dunes here measure upto around 1 metre. The reddish colour is due to iron oxide or rust.
