Cinnamon oil a good mosquito killer

16 July 2004
by Richard Conan-Davies

Cinnamon oil now seems to be a great way of killing those pesky mosquitos or at least controlling and killing the larvae of mosquitos.

Researchers from Taiwan presented their research of the effectivness of several different compounds in cinnamon oil. Led by Dr Peter Shang-Tzen Chang, of Forestry and Resource Conservation at National Taiwan University explained to the American Chemistry Society that " Four compounds cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl acetate, eugenol and anethole exhibited the strongest activity against A. aegypti (a kind of mosquito) in 24 hours of testing,"

This research highlights the value and importance of looking twoard naturally occuring chemicals that can aid in the control of pests. With this research it may be possible to spray fields with cinnamon extract and get a nice aroma too.
