Hubble space telescope spots a big star bubble

16 August 2004
by Richard Conan-Davies

The Hubble Space Telescope has still been taking pictures of some rather amazing astronomical phenomena even though there were some reports that one of the instruments on the space telescope had failed.

This latest image taken by Hubble is of a bubble of hot gas a bit like a flourscent light bulb surrounding a young hot star.

It is thought to have formed due to intense solar radiation in the form of a solar wind coming from the forming star at the centre of the bubble.

The star bubble is only around 35 light years across.
