Homer should read Homer after his heart attack

by Richard Conan-Davies

Cardiac (heart) researchers and doctors are discovering that reading particular types of poetry, especially Greek Epic poems like the Illiad by Homer, can help the heart get back into synchronisation.

German researchers recently tested this idea by asking heart attack patients to read out loud a version of the Odyssey which has a poetic form called a hexameter. They discovered that while reading the patient's heart got back into sync compared with patients that did not recite the poetry or used controlled breathing.

It is probably the combination of beind distracted by concentrating on something mental and slightly melodic that helps.

Homer's poems helps out your heart to recover.
