Radio ET might be heard within 20 years

22 July 2004
by Richard Conan-Davies

our own galaxy the Milky way may have up to a million ET radio transmitters pumping out music and talk back radio.

This is according to Dr. Seth Shostak as reported by NewScientist magazine as part of an article he is have published in space science journal Acta Astronautica. Dr. Shostak suggests that we should pick up some sign of intelligence within 20 years

He used a Formula developed by Frank Drake which takes into account various Life factors ie appropriate stars, planets and orbits. Dr. Shostak included further factors of current computing power increasing.

The main difficulty in finding intelligent signals is there are just so many of them. Super computers are needed to sort through them all. Even idle computers around the world are used to analyse new signals each day through the SETI@home project.

The radio telescope Arecibo is one of the largest single radio ears listening in for ET radio signals.
