Sprouts have been shown to ward of and prevent cancers from occuring according to research by a team at the University of Ulster.

The research led by Professor Ian Rowland and Chris Gill have shown that around 100 grams per day of spouts can provide enough effect to ward off cancers.

Professor Rowland explained further to the University "And just a portion, 113 grammes , per day of a mix of broccoli, radish, alfalfa and clover sprouts was enough in our tests to show the protective effect,"

Their research was presented at the conference BioIreland 2004 and will appear soon in the Journal Cancer, Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.
