Wine or beer a day helps older women's brains

Drinking a glass of wine or beer a day appears to improve the brain function of older women according to a study from a University in the US.

Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard School of Public Health led by Dr. Francine Grodstein questioned 2,480 women, 70 to 81-years-old since 1980 about their drinking habits and also tested their verbal and general intelligence.

The results showed that consuming moderate drinkers who had less than 15 grams of alcohol per day ( presumably this means upto 15 grams ( about 1 glass of beer or wine) - had improved cognitive scores compared to the nondrinkers.

It is thought that this moderate amount of alcohol may help reduce the occurance of micro strokes in the brain.

A glass of wine or beer a day helps a woman's brain work better in older age.
