Ig Nobel Prize for smelling frogs

10 October 2005
by Richard Conan-Davies

The IgNobel prize has been awarded to an Australian Researcher for the bizzare and unusual smells of frogs.

Professor Mike Tyler's team from the University of Adelaide have discovered that frogs can have a variety of smells or emit different odours when they are stressed.

The smells range from cashew nuts to particular curries from northern regions of India.

It is not clear what the smells mean exactly but it is probably a protection system because some frog chemicals actually kill mosquitos.
