Mars Rovers 2 years later

4 January 2006
by Richard Conan-Davies

NASA's JPL Mars rover Spirit landed in Gusev Crater on Mars on 3 Jan., 2004 for a mission planned to last 90-days. Yet two years later along with  robotic explorer Opportunity they are still going strong. Soon after landing Opportunity found layered bedrock suggesting geological evidence of a shallow ancient sea. Well over a year later, Spirit found large amounts of  layered bedrock after driving more than 3.2 kms and climbing into the "Columbia Hills.
