Approximately 1 million pixels. This term is usually associated with digital cameras. It refers to the number of pixels in that make up the image sensor that produces the photo.

The more megapixels a camera has the better the enlargment is without losing detail.

For example a digital camera that produces images:

2048 pixels x 1536 pixels

= 3,145,728 total pixels
