MPEG - Motion Picture Expert Group

A set of standards used to compress moving pictures such as video for digital format. It also provides standards for audio compression into a single stream of data.

Many video images only change part of the screen at a time.The MPEG formats agree to how to compress what parts of each frame as it changes.
