This was my first experience of using noise canceling headphones. I decided to buy them for a long haul flight from London Heathrow to Sydney (via Singapore) to check out how effective they were. I was seated near the back of Qantas Boeing 747-400.
Overall for a first experience of this kind of technology and having read only a few reviews of other models, I was actually quite impressed.
The headphones fitted quite comfortably and could wear them for over 5 hours without any discomfort. I was also wearing glasses and this had no major impact.
When I wore them I did notice that the overall noise reduction was good at removing the aircraft air conditioning compression hiss and generally made the the music I was listening to clearer. You could still hear the low rumble of the aircraft.
The socket adapters for aircraft were a great help and I was for the first time able to listen to some the classical music channels with much greater clarity and actually enjoy the music, the best seemed to music by Bach, which had a lighter chirpier tone.
I did however notice a little blurr in the headphones early on, but it never came up again. I was able to hear a bit of the noise cancelling digital hiss or hum but this was usually not a major problem when listening to music. In a sense the signal to noise ratio avoided that problem.
Overall I would recommend these noise cancelling headphones to anyone travelling on a long haul flight. It definitely improves your hearing of a wide range of music and inflight movies.
